Donald C. Fletcher M.D.

LOW VISION REHABILITATION SPECIALIST

Low Vision Specialists are different. Ophthalmology, like other medical practices, includes numerous sub-specialties. Some ophthalmologists specialize in the removal of cataracts, others in cosmetic/functional enhancements known as ocular plastic surgery. Additionally, ophthalmologists may prescribe glasses or perform laser surgery to correct near or farsightedness. Dr. Fletcher has received advanced “Fellowship” training that focuses on the diseases that impact the health of the retina and vitreous, and Low Vision Rehabilitation.

Dr. Fletcher completed his retina and vitreous training at Presbyterian Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. He completed his Low Vision fellowship at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California. Currently, he serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at University of Kansas School of Medicine, Low Vision Rehabilitation Committee Member for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Affiliate Scientist at Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in San Francisco, California, and Helen Keller Chair for Research and Education in Low Vision Rehabilitation.

Over his distinguished career, he has also been honored numerous times by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In 2006, he was awarded the Meritorious Award for Outstanding Lifetime Contributions to Low Vision, and in 2000 was awarded the Outstanding Contributions in Direct Services to Individuals with Low Vision Award by the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER).
