Our Team

Southwest Florida’s Retina Specialists

Our History of Caring is deeply embedded in the Southwest Florida community. Joseph P. Walker, M.D., F.A.C.S. founded Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida® in 1980 when knowledge of retinal diseases was rapidly expanding. Retina Consultants was the first practice of its kind in the Southwest Florida area. It provided patients, who had been traveling to Miami, Tampa or beyond for treatment, state-of-the-art local care.

As more patients entrusted their eye care to Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida®, Dr. Walker invited fellow Harvard/Massachusetts Eye & Ear Alumnus, Glenn L. Wing, M.D., F.A.C.S. to join him. He was followed by Paul A. Raskauskas, M.D., F.A.C.S. from Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami, Tom Ghuman, M.D., F.A.C.S. from West Virginia University, Ashish G. Sharma, M.D., F.A.C.S. from Wayne State University, and most recently, Katrina Mears, M.D. from University of Iowa Hospitals.

Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida® has grown significantly in over three dozen years of practice. We credit our dedication to patients and referring doctors as the reason our practice is so highly respected by the community.

Six of the physicians affiliated with Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida appear on the Best Doctors in America® List each year. Only five percent of doctors in America earn this prestigious honor, decided by impartial peer review. Five of Retina Consultants’ physicians were named Gulfshore Life Magazines’ “Top Doctors.” Joseph P. Walker, MD, Glenn Wing, MD, Paul A. Raskauskas, MD, Tom Ghuman, MD, and Ashish Sharma, MD received this honor every year.

To help patients see their best with their remaining vision, Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida® launched the first Low Vision Rehabilitation Program in the region.

In 1994, Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida® recruited an internationally renowned expert, Donald C. Fletcher, M.D., as its director. Our Low Vision Rehabilitation Program is just one of the many features Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida® feels benefits our patients’ daily living.

Our team of retina specialists has also developed a national reputation as a major research partner with Harvard Medical School’s affiliated The Schepens Eye Research Institute and Massachusetts Eye and Ear, the National Eye Institute, and others to bring the latest eye care technology to our patients.

Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida® continues our dedication to patient care and treatment by offering our services at five offices conveniently located in Fort Myers, Naples, Cape Coral, Port Charlotte, and Bonita Springs.

From state-of-the-art treatment to the most recent advances in eye care, patients are experiencing the difference Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida® can make in their quality of life.
