Working with scientists and ophthalmologists
from around the world, Retina Consultants
of Southwest Florida
assembled the first clinical system linking a Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope
to a “High Definition” Digital Imaging System. The Scanning
Laser Ophthalmoscope allows the retina physician to visualize and
photograph the retina in great detail. The result is one of the
most advanced laboratories for the diagnosis of retinal disease
in the United States.
Our Electrophysiology Department
is the only one of its kind to be based in a non-hospital based,
physicians office setting. We developed this department to provide
three additional diagnostic tests especially important to gather
in-depth information on the functioning status of the eye when observation
cannot isolate the problem.
Retina Consultants has the greatest
number of specialized, state-of-the-art, ophthalmic lasers in the
region. Ophthalmology was the first specialty to use the laser.
Originally used to repair a detached retina, ophthalmic lasers now
are used to stop bleeding, cut tiny openings, and destroy small
amounts of diseased or damaged tissue.
