.
. .is deeply embedded in the Southwest Florida community.
In fact, Retina Consultants' founder, Joseph
P. Walker, M.D. founded Retina Consultants of Southwest
Florida in 1980, when knowledge of retinal diseases was rapidly
expanding. Patients who had been traveling to Miami, Tampa,
and beyond welcomed this important addition to the medical
community, and still do.
As
more patients entrusted their eye care to Retina Consultants
of Southwest Florida, Dr. Walker invited fellow Harvard Medical
School Alumnus Glenn L. Wing, M.D.,
to join him, followed by Paul
A. Raskauskas, M.D., from the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute
at the University of Miami, and Tom
Ghuman, M.D., from West Virginia University, and most
recently Ashish Sharma, M.D.
of Wayne State University in Detroit. One of the primary reasons
for expanding the practice was that part of our mission has
always been to be available to primary eye care doctors and
to patients. To this day, this is one of the hallmarks of
Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida®.
To
help patients see their best with their remaining vision,
Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida® launched the first
Low Vision Rehabilitation Program in the region in 1994
by recruiting internationally known expert Donald
C. Fletcher, M.D., as its director.
Today,
this team of retina specialists has developed a national reputation
as a major research partner with Harvard Medical School’s
affiliated The Schepens Eye Research Institute, the National
Eye Institute and others to bring the latest eye care technology
to its patients. The health care team members of Retina Consultants
continue this dedication to patient care and treatment from
five offices conveniently located in Fort
Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Bonita Springs,
and Port Charlotte.
From
state-of-the-art technology to the latest advances in eye
care, patients are experiencing the difference Retina Consultants
of Southwest Florida can make in their quality of life. |
