Diseases of the Retina/Vitreous

The National Ophthalmic Research Institute (NORI) is a physician-owned clinical research center specializing in conducting clinical trials of procedures and treatments for diseases of the eye related to the retina and vitreous.

Its mission is to provide patients access to ophthalmic drugs and devices in clinical development that may improve their vision and quality of life. NORI accomplishes this mission with a commitment to ethical patient selection and retention, and superior research conduct in accordance with Good Clinical Practice Guidelines as established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

NORI places a high priority on its commitment to the advancement of medical research. The team of five physician specialists associated with NORI has a prestigious history of active participation with leading academic research institutions such as Harvard Medical School’s affiliated Schepens Eye Research Institute, where they all serve on the clinical faculty.

For nearly 30 years, the NORI senior physicians and research coordinators have conducted clinical trials for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, new diagnostic, surgical and laser techniques, rehabilitation of low-vision patients, and other eye diseases.

The NORI team is led by Glenn L. Wing, M.D., Medical Director, who has been involved in clinical research for more than 25 years in addition to his medical practice at Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida®. He is the past president of the Schepens International Society, has led international conferences, and is highly regarded for his work in retinal medicine.
